License our brand

Science Museum Group Enterprises Ltd handles the licensing programme for the Science Museum, the National Railway Museum and the Flying Scotsman. Each programme closely reflects our brand values and royalties from products sold help to directly fund and support our museums.

Science Museum

The Science Museum’s gift range has been the market leader since its launch over ten years ago, with distribution across the high street in independents, grocers and department stores and a considerable presence online.

Our licensed product ranges comprise apparel, gadgets, games, stationery and toys. Despite having an extensive product offering we are open to new discussions, and keen to see how we can move the Science Museum brand into additional categories.

All our branded products have a scientific basis and aim to create interest in STEM subjects—science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Our products often contain a fun learning element and where relevant include science information sheets and educational content.

NATIONAL RAILWAY MUSEUM

The National Railway Museum is the biggest of its type in the world. Its permanent displays and collections are the most comprehensive and significant in their field, illustrating the history of British railways and railway engineering from the industrial revolution to the present day.

The National Railway Museum archive includes a fabulous collection of advertising posters charting the history of rail, as well as a vast selection of railway memorabilia including railway passes, luggage tags and engineering drawings.

The National Railway Museum rebrand has inspired a new brand focus on STEM subjects and we are keen to explore how engineering and construction products can be enhanced through a link with the National Railway Museum brand.

From a more historic perspective, as part of the National Railway Museum programmes we look after the brand licensing of some the most iconic locomotives in the world, such as Mallard, the holder of the world speed record for steam locomotives; Duchess of Hamilton, one of the three coronation class locomotives still in existence; and Rocket, the most advanced locomotive of its day and the original template for 150 years of steam engines.

THE FLYING SCOTSMAN

The most famous locomotive in the world, Flying Scotsman represents a golden age in British design and engineering. This beacon of modern engineering achievement was the first steam locomotive to travel non-stop from London to Edinburgh and the first to achieve an authenticated 100mph in the UK.

There is great affinity for the locomotive—now lovingly restored and touring the UK—both at home and abroad in key territories such as Japan, USA, Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Germany.

The licensing programme for Flying Scotsman has been running successfully for many years, highlighting the evergreen character of the brand. Current licensed products include ale, whisky, collectables, jigsaws, memorabilia, preschool toys, DVDs, greeting cards, calendars and stationery.
